University of Delhi Colleges of Excellence - India Today Ranking, Survey of Colleges, 2021

The constituent colleges of the University of Delhi shine yet again in the India Today All India Ranking Survey of Colleges,  2021.

Hindu College is ranked 1st in both Arts and Science, Shri Ram College of Commerce is ranked first in Commerce and  Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies has topped in BBA. Lady Shri Ram College bagged the first rank  among colleges with the best placement record.

This academic excellence is reflected not just in the first positions, but with several colleges of the university being ranked in the top 10.

In the Science stream, 7 colleges have been ranked in the top 10 as follows;

1st: Hindu College
2nd: Miranda House
3rd: St. Stephen's College
5th: Hansraj College
7th: Daulat Ram College
9th: Sri Venkateswara College
10th: Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College

In the Arts Stream, 7 colleges are ranked in the top 10 as follows:

1st: Hindu College
2nd: St.Stephen's College
3rd: Miranda House
4th: Lady Shri Ram College
5th: Hansraj College
9th: Gargi College
10th: Ramjas College

In the Commerce Stream, 5 colleges are ranked in the top 10 as follows:

1st: Shri Ram College of Commerce
2nd: Hindu College
3rd: Lady Shri Ram College
4th: Hansraj College
7th: Ramjas College

5 colleges as follows are ranked among the top 10 for the Best Placement Record:

1. Lady Shri Ram College
2. Shri Ram College of Commerce
3. Hindu College
6. Deshbandhu College
7. Hansraj College

Maitreyi College and Ramanujan College are ranked among the three gainers, i.e. colleges which made the biggest leaps since last year.

Sri Venkateswara College, ranked at 14, is recognized as a new entrant, i.e a college which found a place in the top 25 for the first time.

Keshav Mahavidyalaya College and Lakshmibai College are listed as the Emerging Colleges in the survey.

University of Delhi is proud of these centers of excellence for undergraduate education. Congratulations to all the super achievers.

QS Ranking by Subject: Performance by University of Delhi

DU holds onto its QS global ranking of 501-510, with an improved percentile of 39 as against 50 a few years earlier. Among Indian institutions, DU is proud to be ranked 9th overall with a 4th rank in academic reputation.

DU is also proud of its normalised citations per faculty (59.8), which is higher than global median (39.2).

University of Delhi's becoming of an Institute of Eminence has started giving desired results.

QS Ranking by Subject: Performance by University of Delhi

The performance of University of Delhi in the QS ranking by subjects has been best in India if we look at the range of subjects across disciplines. A total of 20 subject have received honors to be in the QS list of ranking from the university. Except for engineering subjects, the University of Delhi has performed reasonably well across disciplines.  In the social Sciences and Management subject, DU has secured 208th position by coming at the top among Indian institutions. In the subjects of Arts and Humanities and Life Sciences and Medicines, the University of Delhi has secured 2nd position among Indian institutions. In arts & Humanities, DU as secured 252nd position while in Life Sciences & Medicine it is between 401-450. In the category of natural sciences, DU has secured 7th position.

Within Arts and Humanities, two subjects have received top position in India namely, Modern Languages and Philosophy, both coming within the bracket of 101-150 ranking. The subjects of History and English language and Literature has secured 2nd position among Indian institutions by falling within the bracket of 151-200 ranking. In Linguistics, DU occupies 1st position among Indian Universities and within 151-200 globally.

In the subjects of Engineering and Technology, three subjects from University of Delhi have made it to QS ranking. These are Electrical and Electronic Engineering (410-500),Mechanical Engineering (401-500) and Computer Science and Information Systems (351-400).

The performance of the University of Delhi in the subjects of Social Sciences and Management  have been exceptionally good with two subjects namely, Development Studies (QS rank 50) and Economics and Econometrics (QS rank 128) securing top position among Indian Institutions and Sociology (QS rank 101-150) and Accounting and Finance (QS ranking 201-250) securing 2nd position among Indian institutions. In Business and management category (QS rank 251-300), DU has secured 10th position in India.

In the fields of Life Sciences and Medicines, three subjects from University of Delhi have received ranking in the QS. These subjects are Agriculture and Forestry (Qs rank 201-250) with second position in India; Biological Sciences (QS rank 251-300) with third position in India and Medicines (QS rank 351-400) with 4th position in India.

A total of five subjects have received World QS ranking in the field of Natural Sciences with DU getting 284th ranking. The subject of Geography (QS rank 151-200) received 2nd position in India. Environmental Studies with QS ranking of 351-400 received 5th position in India and Physics and Astronomy with 201-251 QS world ranking received 8th position in India and the subjects of Chemistry (QS rank 351-400) and Mathematics (QS rank 315-400) received 10th position in India.

Coming of 20 subjects in the ranking of QS World is a matter of pride for the faculty and students of this top university of India. With the coming of the Institute of Eminence and improvement in research profile, the QS world ranking is expected to improve further by including more subjects within its ambit and by enhancing the position/ranking in Individual subjects.

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021  


  • The University has maintained its position at the top in the country as per the Centre for World University Ranking (CWUR) ranking and is 8th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework. It is also among the top 10 Indian public educational institutions/universities and the first among Indian public universities under QS BRICS University Rankings. The h-index of the University touched 192, one of the highest among Indian universities.
 
  • The University of Delhi has improved its ranking in QS World University Rankings 2020 by 13 places and has been ranked 474.
 
  • The University of Delhi has been ranked at 1st position among the top 25 Central Universities and at 8th rank among top 100 universities by Outlook-ICARE India University Rankings 2019.
 
  • The University of Delhi has been ranked as 601-800, 156, 130 in Times Higher Education (THE) World, THE Asia University Ranking and THE Emerging Economics University Ranking, 2019 respectively among the top Universities.
